Thank you for taking a few moments to learn a little more about Mexborough & Swinton Astronomical Society. We are a registered charity based in South Yorkshire with the aim of promoting the advancement of education for the public benefit in astronomy and its associated sciences.
We run a very active weekly meeting programme which covers a wide range of topics in astronomy and space science, see Our Programme for details of forthcoming meetings. Meetings are held at Our Meeting Room, visitors are welcome and there is no obligation to join, a visitors fee is payable. If however you are interested in membership you can pick up an application form with our Constitution & Rules.
The society has built and operates the J.A.Jones Hoober Observatory, this is available for members use (subject to appropriate trainings and in accordance with our Rules of Membership. We also offer supervised access to the general public via our Community Access Programme, we provide a number of public viewing evenings, see Our Programme for dates, which are open to the public - we are also happy to arrange events for larger groups such as school, scouts and brownies.
Our Outreach programme sees us in our local community, we provide a number of events in partnership with local venues such as RSPB Old Moor, Friends of Clifton Park, and Thrybergh Country Park.
